Putuparri and the Rainmakers takes out CinéfestOZ film prize
Putuparri and the Rainmakers took out the CinéfestOZ $100,000 film prize at a red carpet gala event in Busselton, WA on Saturday night.
The win, against some very highly rated feature films, was a welcome surprise to the filmmakers. “Documentaries don’t usually beat feature films in competitions. So it is wonderful that the judges could look beyond the genre to something special in our film” said Director Nicole Ma.
“It’s a great boost for the people of Fitzroy Crossing who appear in the film and I hope it will encourage all Australians to value and better understand the culture of our first peoples” said Producer John Moore.
Congratulations to Nicole Ma, John Moore, Tom ‘Putuparri’ Lawford and Sylvester ‘Bestar’ Rangie who were there to receive the award on the night!
